Interview with Author Mahalakshmi Gopishankar
Mahalakshmi has been working towards being a better person everyday and eternally thankfully to the Almighty for all the kindness. A daughter, sister, wife, mom, home maker, working professional she enjoys every facet of her journey. This book is a humble effort to bring a slice of life through perspectives and keeping fingers crossed that somewhere in the globe this read brings about a change of heart.
- Tell us something about yourself.
God has been really kind in steering my life in the directions at right points of time. I am the Chief Executive Officer of my life and been blessed personally and professionally to follow my heart with the support of my family and friends. I have been working towards being a better person every day and eternally thankfully to the Almighty for all the kindness. A daughter, sister, wife, mom, homemaker, working professional, I enjoy every facet of my journey. I am at my best when I keep myself surrounded by people who are full of positivity and energy. To Paulo Coelho, “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” So many influences have helped me transform to something better every day.
- What compelled you to write this book?
There had many incidents in my life and in the lives of people around me which made me wonder perspectives. I have been proved to in many situations that for every situation there are different perspectives. This book came into light to showcase how different perspectives can turnaround situations. I would consider the book to be a great success if there is a change of heart in people and appreciation of the abundance given to us.
- From how long have you been writing this book? What challenges did you face while writing?
I started writing the book in 2016 but did not envision the possibility of publishing and paused. In 2019, my friend pushed me to pen down and complete the book immaterial of the prospectus. I wrapped up the writing in 2019, November and sent out the manuscripts to many publishers. Being a first-time author, I did not hear from any publication which was the major challenge until I got recommendation of 24by7 Publishing from a colleague/well-wisher.
- What is the most memorable moment for you throughout the journey of the book?
There is no one specific moment which I can call upon. The entire journey has been so fulfilling. I enjoyed all my moments of writing, reminiscing, packaging, anticipating, acknowledging and thanking everyone who were part of this journey.
- Is writing your hobby or passion?
I believe hobby and passion are just degrees of love we have in our interest areas. We start as a hobby and as we get immersive it transforms into a passion. Writing is definitely my passion.
- Are you planning to write again?
Yes. I do have a core idea which might branch into something meaningful, but the idea is in very early stages of seeding.
- Do you believe that when author dies a reader is born?
I am a novice compared to the legendary writers and cannot opine strongly. My narratives are very simple and I greatly look up to R.K. Narayanan for his style of writing. And I believe to some extent that the reader should have an independent interpretation to the author’s writing. Sometimes it can be necessary for the author to die and a reader is born for a perspective.
- For you, what is literary success?
For one it is about getting an opportunity to reach out to readers and letting them decipher new meanings to your writing, or just privileged to hear the joyous moments during the read. It is also about how I can learn and unlearn taking in feedback and then focus on the next writing.
- Do you have any piece of advice for the budding authors out there?
I am as new as them in writing and there is no specific advice as the millennia is very aware and knowledgeable. But in my experience last year during the entire process, it has taught me patience is key.
- What it’s like to be with 24by7 Publishing?
From the time I have been associated with the publishing house, I have a partner, well-wisher and an advocate by my side. I am really thankful for always being there when I needed and for always being transparent in the process. They play an important part in building my confidence and taking my writing to where it is now.
